How Real is Anything?

The Illusion of Perception: A Limited Window into Reality

Humans like to believe they experience the world as it truly is. However, modern research in perception, quantum biology, and neuroscience suggests that reality is far more complex than our senses allow us to perceive. Our brains construct a version of reality that is filtered, incomplete, and sometimes entirely fabricated.

Scientists are discovering that our perception is not just a passive experience but an active interpretation. One shaped by evolutionary biology, quantum interactions, and neurological constraints.

Vision: A Fraction of the Electromagnetic Spectrum

🔶The human eye detects only 0.0035% of the electromagnetic spectrum, meaning we are blind to over 99% of the light and energy in our surroundings.

🔶Quantum biology suggests that some organisms, like birds, can perceive magnetic fields using quantum entanglement within cryptochrome proteins in their eyes. This means other species experience a reality fundamentally different from ours.

🔶The brain does not simply capture reality, it predicts and fills in gaps. Optical illusions expose how much of what we see is not “real” but rather a best guess constructed by the brain.

New Research on Vision & Perception

.🔶Quantum coherence in the retina: Recent studies show that the human eye might be able to detect single photons, an ability that could be linked to quantum effects in biological systems.

.

🔶“Seeing” what isn’t there: The brain’s predictive coding fills in visual blind spots, meaning we sometimes perceive things that do not exist, including hallucinations and misremembered events.

Hearing: The Unheard Symphony of Reality

Humans hear sound between 20 Hz and 20,000 Hz, but many other creatures detect far beyond this range.

🔶Infrasound (frequencies below 20 Hz) is used by whales, elephants, and even tectonic activity to communicate over vast distances.

🔶Ultrasound (above 20,000 Hz) is used by bats and dolphins for echolocation, and some plants emit ultrasonic frequencies when distressed—entire forms of communication we cannot perceive.

New Research on Sound & the Brain

The human brain converts sound into electrical signals, and research suggests it filters out information it deems “irrelevant,” meaning we ignore vast amounts of auditory input.

Hypersonic effect: Some studies suggest that ultrasonic frequencies (above 20,000 Hz) can still influence brain activity even if we are not consciously aware of hearing them.

Smell: The Quantum Secret of Odor Detection

Consciousness & The Quantum Brain Hypothesis

Smell: The Quantum Secret of Odor Detection

Humans have around 6 million olfactory receptors, while dogs have over 300 million, making their perception of smell drastically different. Some animals can detect hormonal changes, emotions, and even diseases through scent alone, suggesting that human olfactory perception is limited but still highly sensitive.

Smell: The Quantum Secret of Odor Detection

A controversial but compelling theory in quantum biology suggests that smell is not just based on molecular shape but may involve quantum tunneling where electrons “jump” between molecules, allowing our noses to detect different odors in ways that traditional biology cannot fully explain.

Consciousness & The Quantum Brain Hypothesis

Some scientists propose that consciousness itself may have a quantum component, interacting with reality in ways we do not yet understand. Quantum brain theory suggests that microtubules in brain cells might use quantum coherence to process information, which could explain phenomena like intuition, sudden insights, and non-local awareness.

Are We Experiencing Reality or a Simulation?

Consciousness & The Quantum Brain Hypothesis

Some researchers believe quantum entanglement may play a role in neural processing, linking distant neurons instantaneously. This might explain why certain intuitive experiences, déjà vu, or “gut feelings” occur faster than traditional neural signaling allows.

Are We Experiencing Reality or a Simulation?

The more we understand perception, the more it seems that our brain constructs an internal simulation rather than directly experiencing the external world.

Our memories, expectations, and biases shape what we “see” and “hear.”

Sensory information is heavily filtered, we only receive what the brain thinks is important.

Some physicists and neuroscientists suggest that our perception of reality is closer to a highly evolved user interface rather than an objective representation of the universe.

The Edge of Human Perception

As science progresses, it is becoming increasingly clear that our reality is a deeply filtered, quantum-influenced projection rather than an absolute truth.

Quantum effects in biology suggest we may perceive reality at a far deeper level than previously thought.

Neuroscience confirms that our consciousness is not a passive receiver but an active generator of the world around us.

The question remains: If we could expand our senses beyond their natural limits, what would we truly see?

Weaving Consciousness Into the Fabric of Reality

If consciousness never ceases, do we ever truly die? Quantum immortality suggests that we may continue existing in alternate timelines, where death is just a shift in perception rather than an end.
